WHO WE ARE

Mission
Science Club for Girls (SCFG) fosters excitement, confidence, and literacy in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) for girls and gender-expansive youth from underrepresented communities by providing free, experiential programs and by maximizing meaningful interactions with women-in-STEM mentors.
At Science Club for Girls, we believe in making a long-term investment in a young person's STEM education. We understand that tackling the systemic causes of diversity gaps in STEM requires dedication, and we're committed to moving the needle toward a more inclusive STEM ecosystem. The impact of this investment is evident in the trajectories of our alumni, and the benefits are shared by all of society.
With women making up less than 29% of the STEM workforce, and Black and Latina women at less than 4% of scientists and engineers, Science Club for Girls addresses a critical need. Our continuum of engaging STEM activities spans K-12, including junior mentoring and leadership experiences for high school participants. Adult mentoring and role modeling is facilitated by volunteers studying STEM disciplines in higher education and working in STEM careers.
We envision a STEM ecosystem populated by robust numbers of diverse women who help innovate solutions to the most pressing issues of our time—from climate change to cybersecurity to global pandemics—while reaping the profound economic benefits of careers in STEM.
Science Club for Girls is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization.

HISTORY
In 1994, two moms in Cambridge, Massachusetts walked into their kids' classroom, recognized a need, mixed passion with hard work, and created a free, fun, hands-on afterschool science program for young girls. Science Club for Girls was born. That initial program has grown, and today, we serve more than 700 girls and gender-expansive youth in grades K-12 through in-person and virtual programs in Greater Boston and surrounding communities.
Our programs are fueled by nearly 200 volunteer mentors, providing participants with personal examples of self-confidence, STEM excellence, and above all, a sense of joy and sisterhood in STEM.
