 Part Time (20 hours per week)

DESCRIPTION 

Science Club for Girls (SCFG), a Cambridge-based non-profit established in 1994, seeks a  dynamic, resourceful and collaborative individual with experience in human resource  management, K-8 STEM education, and/or youth development to join our team. This is a 20  hour per week part-time position. SCFG fosters excitement, confidence and literacy in science,  technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) for girls and gender expansive youth in  grades K-12, especially from communities underrepresented in STEM. We do this by providing free, experiential programs, held after school and on the weekends, in-person in Cambridge,  Boston, Somerville, as well as in virtual formats.

Our programs are led by volunteer mentors who study and work in STEM fields. We recruit  mentors and volunteers from a variety of sectors including academia, corporations and  community organizations.

Science Club for Girls is seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented part-time Program Assistant to  support volunteer recruitment, onboarding, and retention efforts. This role involves providing on site assistance in our after school and Saturday morning STEM clubs and completing special  projects as required. This position is part-time, requiring 20 hours per week in a hybrid setting  involving work at the SCFG office, within the community, and remotely. The Program Assistant  reports directly to the Senior Volunteer Manager.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Assist in recruitment, onboarding, and retention processes of volunteer mentors

  • Support mentor communications, including social media posts and newsletter segments

  • Help plan and execute mentor appreciation events 

  • Support Program Staff as needed in weekly virtual and/or in-person clubs

  • Participate in staff meetings, team meetings, and partner meetings 

  • Align efforts with SCFG’s mission to prioritize recruiting a diverse volunteer base that  reflects communities underrepresented in STEM by race (e.g., Black, Latina, Native  American), by income (e.g., low-income households) or are the first generation in their  families to attend college 

  • Assist with special projects as assigned

QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Associate’s degree or equivalent work experience 

  • 1-2 years of experience in one or more of the following areas: human resource  management, communications, event planning, youth development, STEM and/or K-8  education 

  • Proficiency in Google Workspace and Microsoft Office 

  • Familiarity with social media platforms such as Instagram, LinkedIn, and Facebook

  • Strong oral and written communication and interpersonal skills 

  • Good judgment, along with excellent time management and organizational skills

  • Comfort working in both virtual and in-person workspaces 

  • Ability to work flexible hours including some nights and weekends 

  • Ability to lift at least 20 pounds  

  • Knowledge and experience in community/relationship building 

  • Commitment to promoting gender and racial equity as well as social justice initiatives

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Experience with event planning a plus 

  • Familiarity with Zoom, Salesforce, Asana, Slack, and/or Canva a plus 

  • Valid driver’s license and access to a car a plus

LOCATION, SCHEDULE, AND COMPENSATION

SCFG is located in Kendall Square, convenient to the Kendall/MIT MBTA station. Currently,  SCFG staff are working 2 days/week in the office and 3 days/week remotely. During our 8-week club sessions in the fall and spring, Program staff may be required to work at our club sites any  day from Monday to Saturday.

Occasionally, SCFG staff participate in organizational and partner-related events that occur on  weekdays and weekends.  

Salary range for this part time position is $25,000 to $30,000. 

​

Part-time staff working a minimum of 20 hours per week receive prorated vacation, prorated  holidays, and 5 days of sick/personal time, along with 401(k) benefits.
